There are a few things that guests notice right away when they enter your home, and that stand out more than others. Here’s what you should remember:
1. Scent:
One of the first things that people notice is the smell of your home. It can really make or break the first impression and will leave a lasting reaction on your guests. Think scented candles, diffusers and fragrance sticks, which are available in just about every aroma you can think of!
2. Lights:
While light fixtures and lamps are not one of the first things that people notice, the overall mood of the lighting actually is! Remember to use natural light as much as possible, as harsh lights can be a little overwhelming. Use warm, low lights that will flatter the environment and be easy on the eyes as well.
3. Clutter:
Who doesn’t have clutter at home! And because it’s so common, it’s very noticeable. Make sure you allot one or two baskets in a hidden place for the items that you need to put away or have a dedicated ‘clutter’ closet (which, you will have to clean!).
4. The Walls:
The walls in our homes play a very important role in the décor. So, if the walls are dirty, too light, too dark, plain or over crowded, this will also be very noticeable. Use light neutral tones as the main color (you can still play around with bold colors but do so carefully) and make sure that the walls are decorated smartly.
5. Plants:
Most people have a positive reaction when seeing greenery, flowers and plants in someone’s home, and they are definitely an eye-catching addition to any home. Make sure you keep them alive, as nothing says ‘sloppy home’ more than dried out or dead plants.
