Our homes can deeply shape and effect our mood and attitudes, and as well, affect our productivity and daily actions. There are a number of small things that you can do at home that will help in making you happier at home, which will extend to your daily life. Read on!
1. Make your bed:
You may shudder at the thought of spending three to four minutes making your bed every morning, but research shows that making your bed is actually connected with being more productive and boosts happiness! This is a keystone habit, which basically is a facilitator for other good habits.
2. Declutter:
Easier said than done, we know, but take those extra five minutes to reorganize every room before you leave it. For example, if you have just used the kitchen, make sure the dishes are clean and that you’ve tidied up the area. Use this routine to bring back every room to the ‘ready’ status.
3. Add sentimentality to your home:
Fill your home with positive memories! Pictures, sentimental items, objects from your childhood… adding these to your home will create an overall atmosphere of happiness and positive energy, which you will continue to experience when you are at home.
4. Enjoy your time at home:
Everyone hates doing the dishes or getting the laundry done, but at the end of the day, these are things you HAVE to get done. So, try and enjoy them! Our trick: Crank up the volume on your favorite songs and let them keep you company while doing those exasperating chores.
5. Set daily goals:
Most of us cannot even function without the smell of our morning coffee but try and wake up with a positive mind set and plan a daily goal for yourself. This can be something as simple as ‘meet today’s deadline’ or ‘enjoy time with friends.’ This will leave you with something to look forward to each and every day.
6. Do good to feel good:
Acts of kindness are a dime a dozen, and it doesn’t take too much for you to get them done! This doesn’t necessary mean that you volunteer or give back to a charity (although that is also encouraged!). But give something back to your spouse, friend or roommate even. Take out the trash or tidy up the place without expecting anything in return. This will help cultivate healthy and happy relationships in your life and your home.
7. Call friends and family:
Make the effort and call a friend or family member once a day while at home. As social beings, it goes along way when we try and socialize, even if all we want to do is binge watch TV on the couch.
