One of Bahrain’s top attractions, The Bahrain National Museum was unveiled in 1988, and is built between Manama and Al Muharraq, with a stunning view of coast! It is also home to the Bahrain National Theatre, which in itself is a work of art, and displays both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
Covering an indoor space of 20,000 square meters, and made up of white travertine stone, the Museum was designed by Danish architects Krohn and Hartvig Rasmussen.
The Museum includes nine halls, and categorizes the heritage of Bahrain into six different sections, and gives visitors great insight into the history and development of the country. You’ll be taken on a journey 4,000 years ago, and enjoy traditional handicrafts, burial mounds and ancient documents.
The many halls of the Museum include the Hall of Graves, Customs and Traditions, the Islamic era and Documents and Manuscripts, each displaying a specific area of Bahrain’s history and traditions, as well as the archaeological finds from the ancient Dilmun era.
The Islamic Era Hall is home to Islamic manuscripts and rare Qurans, while the Hall of Customs and Traditions gives you insight to local ceremonies for births, weddings and other celebrations. The Natural History Hall is all about the country’s nature and environment makeup.
More than just a space for exhibitions, The Bahrain National Museum also includes a theatre, a gift shop and a café. From the Museum, you can take a short boat ride and head on over to visit Bu Maher Fort, which is the starting point to discovering the Pearling Road.
