One of the most popular areas to visit in the country is the Manama Souq, which is the old bazar of the county’s capital. Located on the northern side of the city, it lies between the older part of the city and the modern business district.
1. Bab Al Bahrain:
The entrance itself is a historical building! Bab Al Bahrain literally means Gateway of Bahrain, and is the main entrance of the souq. These days, it includes an office for tourists and a crafts shop, and is one of the most recognizable buildings in the country.
2. Activities:
The marketplace is an open air souq, where you can shop, dine and experience the authentic Bahraini trade. In addition to finding authentic items like spices and nuts, you will also find other items alongside the small souq shops.
3. What Does it Include:
In addition to a one of a kind shopping experience, the Manama Souq also includes specialty areas for the Gold Souq, Spice and Herb Souq and a section for perfumes and fragrances.
4. Haggling!
Work on your bargaining skills before hitting the souq, as most items are marked up, and even the sellers know that no one pays full price!
5. Food and Drink:
Make sure you come with an empty stomach, as you will be able to find a number of restaurants and cafes that serve authentic cuisines for a bargain! It’s a culinary experience like no other, and you’ll surely want to try out all the spots!
