Moving? This three-part series checklist will be your go-to-guide, from the two month starting point, to the big moving day, ensuring you don’t end losing your hair in the process!
*FOUR WEEKS TO MOVING DAY
Confirm your arrangements:
Make sure that all your arrangements are confirmed, including the time and day of the movers picking up your items, your new move in date, etc.…
Begin Packing:
Although a month sounds too far off from Moving Day, you need the time to make sure you pack correctly. Put away the items you use infrequently first, and start from there. Winter clothes (if its summer time), serving plates, etc.… and then work your way from there.
Don’t Forget to Label:
Make sure you label each and every individual box with the items it includes. Remember that inventory we talked about in part 1? Use it to itemize and categorize your boxes. Essential, kitchenware, office supplies, etc.… the more precise you are the easier the unpacking will be!
Secure Your Valuables:
Documents, jewelry, money and more should all be stored in a safe place that you personally will take with you to your new home.
Change Your address:
If needed, change your mailing address. Also, notify your landlord or building management of your new address, as to ensure any mail that is sent to your old address reaches you. When doing this, ensure that you also inform any important party of the change.
*TWO WEEKS TO MOVING DAY
Take a Day Off:
If moving day falls on a weekday, ensure that you take a day off from work/school to make the move as easy as possible.
Contact the Moving Company:
Call your movers and make sure that all details are confirmed; date, time, pricing, etc.… ask them any questions you may have; if you are unsure of something, now is the time to get the answer.
Go Over Your Checklist:
Go over the previous points in the checklist and make sure that you have completed all the steps!
