Before you sign a rental agreement, there are a number of questions that you should ask. Here are some questions you should know the answers to before making a final decision on a home in Bahrain.
1. Who is responsible for any maintenance issues?
Does the unit have a full time maintenance team? Are you requested to cover or handle any maintenance requests and expenses? As repairs can be quit pricey, this is a very important question to ask!
2. What does the rent include?
Does it include electricity and water? Does the rent include internet?
3. Are there any lease penalties?
If there is a need to break the lease, what are the penalties? Keep that in mind as some require a month rent.
4. What about the security deposit?
Different companies require different security deposits, some ask for cheques, and others require cash deposits. In any case, both will be returned to you upon leaving the home, should it be in good condition.
5. Who is my point of contact?
Is there a receptionist that I can call? Or a call center? Who can I reach out to when I have any questions, or need any information.
6. Are there things I can’t do in the house?
Can I paint the walls? Or redecorate? Hang up a few shelves? Some properties have stricter rules than others, so make sure you know you have the okay before making any changes.
7. What about parking?
Does the unit come with parking? Is one enough, or do you need more? Are there any additional charges related to parking?
8. Are the appliances in good working condition?
When moving to a furnished or semi-furnished property, it will include appliances. Question who is responsible for the repairs of these appliances, and who is responsible for replacing them should the need arise.
9. Are pets allowed?
For any pet owners, this is the most important question! Make sure that the agreement clearly states the pet rules, so that there is no confusion in the future.
