As Bahrain continues to be a major player across the region and the world, more and more people are relocating here, taking advances of high salaries, seeking career development and all that Bahrain has to offer. Here’s a quick newbie guide to Bahrain.
Visas and Residencies:
In order to be able to live freely in Bahrain, expat employees and their families need a valid residence permit. This is possible only when you have a contract from a Bahraini company. While you may enter on a visa, you will then begin the process of obtaining an RP for you and your family should they be joining you.
Accommodation:
You have to main options here: either your employer will be responsible for securing a home for you, or you will be given a monthly allowance, whereby you will be responsible for finding your new home. Depending on the budget, you will be able to choose from a number of different homes that are available in the market. Check out propertyfinder.bh for all your needs!
Transportation:
While Bahrain does have a basic transportation system (mainly buses), and a more sophisticated system will likely be introduced in the future, most people choose to drive in the country, or rely on taxis (which also includes application taxi services).
Schools:
For parents who are looking to enroll their children in school, make sure that you enroll your children as early as possible. While there are a number of schools in Bahrain there are usually waiting lists for schools, and the process of applying can be long, as assessments are also held. Some companies offer employees an allowance for education, which is a valuable added benefit, as school fees are pretty steep.
Healthcare:
Bahrain has a number of private and public hospitals and medical centers that operate in a very high standard. Those who are living in Bahrain automatically receive healthcare from the public sector, although health insurance is often provided by employers which sometimes includes private hospitals.
Nightlife:
Bahrain has a budding nightlife and is enjoyed by many. There are a number of bars, lounges, pubs and night clubs in areas such as Juffair, Adliya and Central Manama.
