Moving to a new home is always an exciting chapter in a family’s life, but it can also be a little stressful if there are young children n the household. Here are some tips to consider when moving with kids
Prepare Them Well:
Before the move, make sure that the children are involved in the process. This means taking them to visit the new homes, the neighbor, and other exciting areas in your new area.
Include Them in the Planning:
Be it designing their new room, picking out wall colors, or even choosing some new furniture items. Whatever it is, if you include them in the process, they will feel the excitement rather than tension.
Create a ‘Moving Day’ bag:
Most children feel more at ease with their loved items with them; a blanket or a teddy bear or whatever it is that they love the most. Place these items in a small bag and have it with them the whole day.
Create Activities for them:
For those kids who don’t want to be involved, make sure you have ample activities for them to do on the day; games, coloring books, puzzles… anything that will keep them distracted.
Prepare Moving Day Snacks:
Make yummy snacks for the day! Whatever their favorite treats are add them to the mix. You can also include them in the baking process as well!
Make Introductions When the Move is Done:
After you’ve moved, take a break from unpacking and walk around the neighbor, make introductions and get to know the area as tenants. You can also try the neighbor restaurant or supermarket as well!
